Hello everyone,
I am trying to get the usagi version of linux installed and I am having some
trouble. I installed a version of Redhat v7.0 with kernel 2.2.16-22.
I have downloaded the following packages from the usagi ftp server:
kernel-2.2.16-22.u1.i386.rpm
kernel-smp-2.2.16-22.u1.i386.rpm
I downloaded them into /usr/src
I went ahead and did the rpm updates:
[root@localhost /usr/src]: rpm -Uvh kernel-2.2.16-22.u1.i386.rpm
[root@localhost /usr/src]: rpm -Uvh kernel-smp-2.2.16-22.u1.i386.rpm
I was then able to boot-up using this new kernel of 2.2.16-22.u1. When I do
a:
[root@localhost /root]: rpm -q kernel
it is telling me I have kernel version 2.2.16-22.u1 installed.
Am I doing this correctly so far?
I am assuming now that IPv6 is enabled after reboot, but I was unsuccessful
at getting it to work. I have added the following to the following files:
ifcfg-eth0:
IPV6INIT=yes
IPV6FORWARDING=yes
IPV6ADDR="3ffe:200:100:100::2/64"
in the network file:
NETWORKING_IPV6=yes
IPV6_TUNNELMODE=IP
I've been reading the IPV6 linux web page by Peter Bieringer, but his
instructions don't seem to be too straightforward to me.
My application of this is to get two linux computers talking to eachother
using IPv6 in a local private lan environment. I am wanting to setup a
testbed in order to experiment and write some applications.
Also, some general questions:
Does this version of Linux have both IP stacks enabled?
Do I need to modify the ifup and ifdown scripts in the
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory?
Is there a quick test I can do to check to see if the IPv6 is
enabled? I tried to ping6 myself (i.e., ping6 3ffe:200:100::2) and I get an
unknown host response back.
Do I need to download the source code and do a make xconfig to
enable the IPv6 options, then do a compilation of the kernel?
Is it possible that someone can give me some better detailed installation
instructions for the usagi version of Linux. It would be greatly
appreciated!

John Richardson
