(usagi-users 00427) Kernel patches split to pieces and upstreamed

Hello all,

During IETF50, a month ago, there was mail discussion here which included,
among others, A. Kuznetsov, one of the kernel ipv6 maintainers.

I got the impression that USAGI promised that they'll try to tune down the
unnecessary changes to a minimum, and submit smaller patches, ones that
the maintainers could accept, to upstream. This was to be done in April,
when there was more time available.

I don't want to sound pushy here, but I'd like to remind of this.

IMO this is a very important issue. Recent thread about autoconfiguration
failing after 'ifdown eth0 ; ifup eth0' until driver reload, and the patch
being already in USAGI kernel has strengthened this belief.

USAGI patches are never going to be merged overnight, it must be done
slowly, step-by-step. I hope we're all aiming toward _stock_ kernel
having good IPv6 support; having apply a separate patch helps only the
small minority that does.
