Hey there, USAGI team!
It was nice meeting you all at the IETF. Now that I have got the jet-lag
under control, I am going back to work now :-) Hope you all are doing fine.
Ummm..., talking about work, what happened to the multicast problem I
described on the mailing-list? To refresh everyone's memory, I observed that
when two (or more) processes try to bind() to the same multicast address/port
combination on a host, the second bind() fails with an "address already in
use" error. This should be normal for unicasr addresses, but should be
allowed for multicast addresses. This problem occurs only with the USAGI
kernels, both for IPv4 and IPv6 multicast addresses. The bind()s succeed on
the normal Linux kernels. I have only tested this on the 2.4 kernels, since I
do not use the 2.2 kernels. Because of this problem, we cannot deploy the
few popular multimedia applications available for Linux that are IPv6 enabled
(RAT -- Robust Audio Tool, and VIC, etc.) on the USAGI kernels. Did anyone
else observe this? Any solutions?
