I'm running these scripts within a private test environment, so I'm not
worried about security. I would use ssh, but I don't feel like re-writing
the scripts. However, when I try using ssh with the "/etc/hosts.equiv"
file, I'm still prompted for a password...is this right?

Why don't you use ssh/sshd with private/public keys?
